Food!

This is a repost from my other blog, but I thought it went along with my previous post.

I never realized before how much I really LOVE food. I mean, I've always said that I do, and that I enjoy eating good food, but I'm realizing that my life just revolves around it. I've been a restaurant server, a pastry chef, and now a cook, and I just love creating good food. I read about food, I watch travel shows that center around food, I love experimenting with new recipes, I want to farm and grow nutritious food to share with people, I go crazy looking at all the gorgeous food at the farmers' market, and I take lots of pictures of food. I am passionate about food.

So don't be surprised when many of my posts contain some food-related topic.

Happy eating!

Apple Picking

The twins and I went apple picking last week, and I thought that I would share some of the pictures.

French Style Hot Chocolate

It's that time of year again!!!
Ever since I was little, my favorite season has always been Fall. I look forward to it all year long, yearning for the brightly colored leaves during the gray depths of Winter, and the brisk chilly air, while enduring Summer heat waves.
I love the colors, and the pumpkins, and the boots, and scarves, and I especially love cool October nights spent cuddling and reading, while sipping hot tea or cocoa.
So, in celebration of the season, I am posting a recipe for a wonderful French style cocoa I tried earlier this year.

Ingredients:
 4 oz semisweet chocolate
4 c milk
3/4 c half & half
1/2 c sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2  tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp allspice
1 tsp vanilla
1 c. Heavy whipping cream
Extra sugar

Directions:
 1. Melt chocolate in 1 cup of milk, stirring constantly, over low heat.

2. Gradually add the rest of the milk, the half & half, and all ingredients, except for vanilla.

3. Stir constantly, cooking over medium heat, until thoroughly heated.

4. Stir in vanilla.

5. Whip heavy whipping cream with extra sugar (to taste).

6. Serve cocoa in mugs, topped with whipped cream and nutmeg.

7. Enjoy while cuddled in front of the fire, or reading a book. ♥

I did find this recipe here, if you are interested in looking at it, as I did not add the almond extract and added sugar to the whipped cream topping.

Frogs legs

Maybe not the best picture, but I finally tried frog legs and I can check that off of my bucket list now. I went to a restaurant in Portland called Le Bistro Montage, last night with some friends, and their Cajun inspired menu allowed me the opportunity to try these. Of course, it did take me a few minutes, going back and forth, deciding if I really wanted to order them, because you have that picture in your head of slimy green frogs, but I eventually decided to, and I am glad that I did. The legs tasted amazing, with a crisp breaded layer on the outside and a meaty chicken/fishy taste on the inside. I will definitely be ordering these again, and I can't wait to visit this restaurant again.

Afterwards, we of course had to make a trip to Voodoo Doughnuts for a dozen of their amazing doughnuts, including a Bacon Maple Bar for me.

I have to say, I love how unique Portland is, and I am definitely looking forward to my next trip up there.

Until next time.
